Our membership has grown again with a couple dozen new members. Although our professional development sessions provide the perfect opportunity for you to meet other members, we are looking to organise a half-yearly fun membership session - ISACA Adelaide Casino Royale. ISACA Adelaide will be joining forces with the National Poker League of Australia to bring you a No Limit Texas Hold'em individual based poker tournament. No mercy here. It's a perfect opportunity to beat your colleagues, competitors or even your own boss. Partners are more than welcome to attend, either as players or spectators. The National Poker League will provide an experienced tournament manager who will be providing game instructions, a tailored introduction and a 'learn to play' tutorial so that everyone can have a go! The winner will take the coveted best ISACA Adelaide poker player trophy and gold-class cinema voucher. Sorry folks, no real money - it's all in the name of fun. Drinks and nibbles will be provided in the great atmosphere of the Historian Hotel in the city. The event is currently planned for July or August, but we are looking for responses and suggestions from our members. Currently projected charge for member players or spectators is $25 and $30 for non members. This will cover the cost of finger food and drinks from the bar. Would you like to attend the event? Would you like to bring your partner (at members' price)? We need to get at least 30 members attending, so let us know before the end of May. Based on preliminary responses, we will then organise the event and send out formal invitations. We look forward to hearing from you all. Send your comments and responses to membership@isaca-adelaide.org and post your preferred event date on our poll.

In a surprise move Rajni Lalsinghani withdrew her nomination. The President Jo Stewart-Rattray expressed disappointment in Rajni's decision to withdraw her nomination. Jo thanked Rajni for her hard work while a member of the Board, particularly with CISA/CISM and PD sessions. Jo was certain the Board would find suitable projects for Rajni to work on.
This meant the following people were elected as Board Directors: Bob Smart, Steve Challans, Malcolm Pattinson, David Anders, Mat Hannan.
All the best,
Ray Kerrison Secretary

Point taken Malcolm . This is still a pilot and we will discuss the ads on the Monday meeting, but we can remove them (at a cost), if the discussion board becomes popular. Regarding the lonely hearts service, hmmm, we can call it a value add . As for the Jeep, just make sure you have a fire extinguisher in your boot. Bob

Bob, Well done with this discussion board.
However, I am not sure that I agree with the advertising of 2 things on our discussion board. Firstly, being a Jeep driver myself, I noticed there was a link to my jeep dealer or at least an Adelaide Jeep dealer - not so! Got USA dealers and prices and models!!! disappointing, even though Jeeps tend to blow up!(Today Tonight story)
Secondly, and more importantly, do we have to advertise a "dating service" for lonely hearts on our discussion board. Is it the type of service our members and others are likely to be looking for?

After Steve Darrall's intriguing case studies with his experiences around IT projects and security requirements, it would be interesting to share and discuss your experiences. Should IT security requirements be specified in details for new IT project? Is there a clear minimum acceptable level of IT security for new project? Would not delivering a 'reasonably secure' system constitute negligence by the vendor? These are the interesting questions that Steve’s presentation and the discussion that followed raised. I hope we’ll get it going online, as well.

As promised during the presentation, I am happy to answer any questions you may have in relation to wireless security on-line. This may also be a good forum to discuss your view and opinions in regards to WiFi technology, wireless VoIP and the impact of convergence to overall network security. I'm listening. Cheers, Bob

The chat we had after the PD session proved that Jarek Modra's presentation really sparked the discussion and provoked some interesting points about security controls and (for some reason) particularly about biometrics. Now we have posted slides (partially stripped of Jarek's practical and ingenious approach to social engineering) on the members-only area of the website (http://www.isaca.asn.au/memb_login.asp). Hope to see your comments and experiences with penetration testing.
